The Tageran Steppe is one of the most mysterious places on Lake Baikal. Already 20000 years ago people lived here. Its natural borders are built by the river Anga in the South, the coastal line of Baikal (region Small sea) in the North and in the East, and the Primorskiy mountain in the West. The landscape is very strange here- high hills with rocks and few forest look exotic. The age of the stone formation there is very impressive – about 30-40 million years. Despite of the especially dry climate of this region the flora is very manifold: beside the common steppe species there are representative of the alpine area.

According to the declaration of the joint Russian-American archaeological expedition the ancestors of American Indians came from this region.
